As you’re here, hopefully you feel the same way as we do!

We will be publishing details of the next Dangerous Driving update very soon. Check back or sign up to our Dangerous Driving Club HERE. You know it’s the right thing to do. In fact, we think you’ll be unsure of what path to take in life until you do. So sign up today, we’ll work hard to make it worth your while.

Dangerous Driving Update#3 Fully Comp

“Fully Comp” is the third Update for Dangerous Driving. We’re pleased to announce that the Update is now live and available for download on PSN and Xbox Live. This update is a significant one.

If you want Fixes, you got it!

Here are the main changes included in this “Fully Comp” update to Dangerous Driving

  • Host of improvements to physics and collisions including:
    • Improve collision after a Takedown to reduce the likelihood of the player car intersecting the road and spinning rapidly, before being reset to the track
    • Decrease the chance of player car going underneath a rival and being forced through the road
    • Reduce the likelihood of getting launched into the air as a result of ramming a rival (surely this is the epitome of Dangerous Driving?)
    • Limit being spawned facing the wrong way after a collision
    • Improve collision with barriers to address the situation where the player car gets lifted up or stuck and being spun around
    • Make the consistency of collisions with traffic better – traffic is now always fatal (we have slightly reduced the amount of traffic to accommodate this)

But wait! There’s more! It’s a “Fully Comprehensive” Update

  • Improvements in joining online games – to reduce the number of network errors being returned when trying to join a game; we have also added some extra tools to analyse where and why the failures are happening
  • Restore the in-Garage ticker showing the car stats and mileage (went missing in the last update!)
  • Fix for Wrecks not getting cleared online – this may be a player selectable option in a future update
  • Fix an issue at the U turn on the Hypercar Class Shakedown event where players get stuck in a crash/respawn /crash loop
  • Improve how player is reset on track after a crash in Dangerous Driving
  • Save Sensitivity options – previously reset each time the game was relaunched
  • Remove reset on the right stick camera movement. It will instead reset when you crash or restart
  • Fix for Pursuit vehicles taking each other down and ending the event early
  • Upgrade to latest Unreal Engine for improved graphical performance and faster load times for Dangerous Driving

We’re excited about getting these fixes out to you. We’ve also firmed up the plan for the next update to Dangerous Driving Check out our roadmap page for more details.

Dangerous Driving Update #2 which we’re calling “3rd Party, Fire and Theft” which adds online play to Dangerous Driving and it’s now been released for download on all platforms!

UPDATE: The PC version launched June 14th and includes everything listed below but ALSO includes a heap of fixes which are part of the ‘Fully Comp’ update. See details below.

The Third Party Fire and Theft update adds the following

  • 6 player online racing (see our blog post HERE which details everything you need to know about online play details.)
  • Ability to raise the camera on the right stick
  • Save player’s last paint choice per car
  • Increase the amount of Boost earnt from Air
  • Add HUD scaling on PC to fix issues reported with running the game at different resolutions
  • Fix Xbox One Leaderboards ‘Top’ filter never loading on the Results screen

The PC update also includes the following fixes to Dangerous Driving

  • Host of improvements to physics and collisions including:
    • Improve collision after a Takedown to reduce the likelihood of the player car intersecting the road and spinning rapidly, before being reset to the track
    • Reduce the likelihood of player car going underneath a rival and being forced through the road
    • Reduce the likelihood of getting launched into the air as a result of ramming a rival
    • Improve collision with barriers to address the situation where the player car gets lifted up or stuck and being spun around
    • Reduce the likelihood of being spawned facing the wrong way after a collision
    • Improve the consistency of collisions with traffic – traffic is now always fatal (we have slightly reduced the amount of traffic to accommodate this)
  • Fix an issue at the U turn on the Hypercar Class Shakedown event where players get stuck in a crash/respawn /crash loop
  • Improve how player is reset on track after a crash
  • Save Sensitivity options – previously resets each time the game was relaunched
  • Remove reset on the right stick camera movement. It will instead reset when you crash or restart.
  • Upgrade to latest Unreal Engine for slightly improved graphical performance
  • Fix for Pursuit vehicles taking each other down and ending the event early.
  • Fix for Wrecks not getting cleared up online
  • Make it easier to find games online – introduce option to browse games

These fixes and improvements will be coming to the console versions of Dangerous Driving very soon. Release Date currently estimated to be June 25th 2019.

There are 2 known issues on console which are currently being fixed :
  • On PlayStation – the second half of a Point to Point track won’t always load in and you can get caught in a crash loop. UPDATE: This has been fixed by a PS4 update on June 18th
  • On PlayStation and Xbox – the vehicle stats and mileage have disappeared from the car select. The workaround is to check your mileage on the in game speedo whilst we prep a fix.

Make sure you join our “Dangerous Driving Club” so you can be first to receive all the latest news about Dangerous Driving from us here at Petersfield’s biggest game development Studio, Three Fields Entertainment.

DANGEROUS DRIVING

Dangerous Driving is evolving – to date it has all been about Single Player Racing but we’re in the process of introducing Networked Online Racing.

It’s an exciting step. It’s something we started doing back in 2004 so we all have experience of it and something we have been itching to get back to.

Dangerous Driving logo

That said it’s not straightforward, if we were ever in danger of forgetting that the last 2 weeks has been a blunt reminder! Adding online play is just really complex, it’s why many small development teams don’t do it.

But we’re in this for the long term and Online is central to the experiences we want to create – so here we are as I write this today, Friday afternoon, and 2 of the guys are out (and our 7th member works off site) so there are just 4 of us, making a 6 player online game!

In keeping with how we have approached everything in the last few years we are taking a step by step approach, focusing on the fundamentals first.

Dangerous Driving Online Play

Here’s what is in the first Online Update :

  • 6 player online racing.
  • A Ranking system directly related to your finishing position in each race. Finish a race and you will get 1 point plus another point for every person you beat, giving a maximum of 6 points per race (As we add more game modes we will likely add more ways to earn points)
  • 18 pre set events.
  • Client Server but without a dedicated Server – so one player will be the host and they will create the game and choose the event (and hence the car).

We’ve kept the first release deliberately focused. Our first priority is getting a good, competitive online race and that has 2 main aspects to it:

  1. Good technical solutions to minimize lag, to ensure players are where they appear to be and all the other quite complicated programming that has to happen to ensure you can find players, get into a game and have that game play out as you would expect it to.
  2. Balancing solutions to ensure the race itself is fun – and a lot of this comes down to game balancing to ensure that its a level playing field based around player skill.

Fortunately we have had a bit of experience in both of these areas.

One of the big technical challenges we face is synchronising players together when they’re travelling at over 200 mph – this involves a trade off of making the opponents travel smoothly round the track whilst needing to update their position regularly so that you have a fair chance of taking them down. It’s all about finding the Sweet spot between accuracy and reaction.

The reason we have gone for a Client Server model without a dedicated server is really for simplicity and ease of support going forward. We’ve never been a fan of servers being turned off and as a small team we have to choose solutions that fit how we work. That’s the same reason we have opted to start with 6 players – there are 6 of us in the office so we can test that every day and we make a point of playing at least 3-4 times every day.

Dangerous Driving Multiplayer
Dangerous Driving Online Play 2
Dangerous Driving Multiplayer Takedown

To balance the game around player skill we have made a few changes to how the game works online such as introducing a much larger penalty (speed loss) for hitting barriers. We’ve also re-tuned Boost earning to really reward dangerous driving.

We’re also aiming for a consistent number of traffic cars around each player. However online these will only appear in oncoming – which increases the risk / reward balance. You’ll earn more boost driving in oncoming but it increases the risk of your crashing.

To keep things fair players will always be in the same car type. Even within one class the speeds vary by up to 30 mph making the races very unbalanced if we didn’t do this.

Our first online offering will focus on getting these fundamentals right – to do that we have accepted some limitations. 6 players, no host migration, start with one game mode, pre set events that the host chooses.

We’ll talk more soon about what else we will add but right now our focus is on getting this first update into submission so we can get it to you as soon as possible.

We’re excited about bringing Dangerous Driving to an online audience.

UPDATE (June 18 2019) – Third Party, Fire & Theft is now live on PlayStation4, Xbox One and PC.

DANGEROUS DRIVING UPDATE #1

No Claims Bonus is the first Update for Dangerous Driving. It’s now available for download on PS4 Xbox One and PC.

We’ve been listening to your feedback and the No Claims Bonus Dangerous Driving update contains the fixes listed below:

  • Prevent unfeasibly short leaderboard entries
  • Fixes an issue that would cause a Crash on Xbox when signing out of the game (according to the stats from Microsoft this accounts for 18% of all Crashes on Xbox)
  • Fixes an issue that would cause a Crash during gameplay on all platforms when hitting quit during Danger Time
  • Prevents AI shooting past the player at super sonic speed
  • Prevents AI speed not being capped when you’re in Takedown Camera (hence why they speed past you)
  • Ensures Aftertouch Takedowns give you the advantage they should (not reset at back)
  • Ensures laps always register on Hypercar Shakedown event on Desert Marathon
  • Stops AI always crashing at start of Island Lighthouse track
  • Minimises player getting reset behind persistent wrecks after a Crash
  • Ensures it is possible to get Platinum medal on Formula DD Survival Event

No Claims Bonus is just the start. We will be publishing a roadmap this week of other Dangerous Driving Updates and fixes with the priority on Collision fixes and adding Online Racing. Check out the Known Issues list on our FAQ for more info.

Announcing Spotify integration into “Dangerous Driving” https://www.threefieldsentertainment.com/2019/04/09/spotify-integration-in-dangerous-driving/ Tue, 09 Apr 2019 14:30:05 +0000 http://www.threefieldsentertainment.com/?p=3128 The post Announcing Spotify integration into “Dangerous Driving” appeared first on Three Fields Entertainment.

]]>

We are delighted that the music in Dangerous Driving will be delivered via Spotify which is a first for racing games. Follow ‘Three Fields’ to see our dream playlist.

We have long believed that racing games shouldn’t have just one soundtrack. Music, especially the music you drive to, is incredibly personal – and changes based on your mood. It would be hard to have just one soundtrack that suited all players in all those moments. (Even if it was possible it would be beyond the budget of an independent developer.)

That’s why we love things like Spotify’s ‘Songs to listen to in the car’, a smart playlist which picks music for you based on the music you already like to listen to – its personal for everybody.

Whilst Spotify has existed on console for a while not everyone remembers to go set it up and also you have to either control it from another device or keep exiting the game to change track etc. Its not integrated.

You’ll be able to authorise it from within the Audio Menu and from then on you’ll be able to control your music from within the game. And the current implementation is, we hope, just the start of a fully featured integration which includes gameplay triggered music!

Here is a quick guide to getting Spotify working in Dangerous Driving.

Spotify needs a premium account. Authorization will fail if you don’t do this.

Go to Settings -> Audio -> Authorize Spotify

This will give you a code (example below).
Note: You don’t have to match case or hyphens. Zero and Capital O look very similar, but zero has a diagonal line through it. Codes expire after 10 minutes.
If your code is not recognised try again after 10 minutes and get a new code / enter it on a different browser.
If you accidentally link the wrong account you will need to load up your Spotify account and log in to the Apps page and Remove Access to Spotify from Dangerous Driving. You can then link it to the correct account.
Once you have entered your code, make sure you Continue from the screen by pressing A or X.
Back cancels and will always fail. Continue will check authorization.

Once you have Spotify authorized make sure you have Spotify running on the device (PlayStation4, Xbox One or PC) and choose a playlist. You will then be able to control that from within the game.

The current implementation is, we hope, just the start of a fully featured integration which includes gameplay triggered music!

You will need a Spotify Premium account to access this but you can get a 1 month free trial so we highly recommend you check it out.

If you see the screen below you will need to ensure that Spotify is running on your Xbox/PS4/PC. Go out to the dashboard/minimise the game etc and open Spotify and then return to the game.

“Dangerous Driving” – Why Vehicle Classes Are Important https://www.threefieldsentertainment.com/2019/04/06/dangerous-driving-vehicle-classes/ Sat, 06 Apr 2019 10:48:42 +0000 http://www.threefieldsentertainment.com/?p=3255 The post “Dangerous Driving” – Why Vehicle Classes Are Important appeared first on Three Fields Entertainment.

]]>

It’s time to talk about why Vehicle Classes are important in Dangerous Driving!

There are just a few days to go until Dangerous Driving launches. It’s the perfect time to share more details about the different vehicles used in the game.

The 27 vehicles in Dangerous Driving. They are spread across six Vehicle Classes: Sedan, SUV, Coupe, Supercar, Hypercar and Formula DD.

Each class has a Base Vehicle and then a Tuned, Advanced and Prototype variant. Base Vehicles are unlocked at the start of each new Tier of Events. The other 3 variants are unlocked by winning a Gold Medals. Go head to head in Face Off Events to unlock upgraded Vehicles.

There are over 400 combinations of car and livery in the game. Here are just a few!

Vehicles that are tailor made for Modes – we wanted to make car choice meaningful. We didn’t want there to be just 1 ‘best’ car (especially when we take the game online – coming soon in FREE DLC). You make a choice based on the mode and your playing style.

Base Vehicles

These are the vehicles that you start each class of Events with but they’re no slow coach, even the base Sedan can do 197 mph!.

However digitally pre order the game (before this coming Monday) and you’ll get a special VIP sedan to start the game with, with a top speed of 200 mph.

The VIP Sedan is ONLY available via the digital pre order. There is no (and will never be) another way to get this special car with it’s unique livery, rear styling package, exhaust system and gold (green on Xbox One) wheels!

Advanced Vehicle Class for Dangerous Driving

Advanced Vehicles are stronger, hit harder and take less damage, making them the perfect car for Takedown Races or Road Rage, where they are more resilient against the attempts of Rivals to take you down!

Tuned Vehicles

Faster than the Base or Advanced models, the Tuned cars are perfect for ‘Heatwave events’ – they earn and use boost more quickly so you can chain quicker – but also each successful chain in a Tuned car adds 2 mph to your top speed – until you crash!

We have no idea what the limit is on this as we have always crashed after about 30-35 chains!! So we’re looking forward to seeing the YouTube videos of how far you guys push it!

Prototype Vehicles

The Prototype cars have been optimized for Racing – they’ve got more speed than any other but watch out they are also the most fragile!

They have less strength than the other vehicles so whilst you could take them into a Road Rage, you’d be spending more time fleeing your Rivals than taking them down!

And one more thing – These only come in carbon fibre!

Cop Cars

Players start out with the base Sedan Cop Car, perfectly adequate for your every day Pursuit. But as the game progresses and there are more Targets to chase down (up to 5 in later events) you’ll want to unlock the SUV and Supercar Cop Cars.

Dangerous Driving – The Locations https://www.threefieldsentertainment.com/2019/04/03/dangerous-driving-course-locations/ Wed, 03 Apr 2019 17:11:11 +0000 http://www.threefieldsentertainment.com/?p=3210 The post Dangerous Driving – The Locations appeared first on Three Fields Entertainment.

]]>

With just under a week to go until Dangerous Driving launches we wanted to share more details about the locations.

The game features 7 North American National Park inspired locations including Canyons, Deserts, snowy Mountains, Lakes and more.

There are 31 courses in total (we know … all the promo material says 30 but we squeezed one more in – the very popular Island Lighthouse which is the shortest in the game and perfect for gruelling 5 lap Eliminator races).

There are over 270 miles of road you’ll drive – and we calculate mileage per vehicle (which you can check out in the Garage – more on that in our next blog post about the cars).

This is where you’ll start your Dangerous Driving journey.

As the name suggests its based around two lakes with an adjoining forest section of tall cedar trees and overhanging rocks. Befitting its place at the start of the game this is one of the easier drives but as with all the courses in the game, danger lurks around every corner, whether from the Rivals you race against or the natural features of the environment.

Short Course: 4.2 miles / Long Course: 6 miles / Marathon Course: 12 miles

All 3 of the Dead Rock Canyon tracks are dry, sunny drives through spectacular scenery. Along with Twin Ferry Lakes, these courses are also amongst the easier drives in Dangerous Driving with relatively straight roads with just a little undulation but this is no vacation – watch out for sharp hairpins and perilous cliff edges.

Short Course: 4.5 miles / Long Course: 6.7 miles / Marathon Course: 9.9 miles.

Surf Side Island is the only location to feature 4 courses. Sweeping bridges, stunning coastal views, wind farms & open sided tunnels are the trademarks of this location. The Lighthouse course is the shortest in the game, perfect for the first Eliminator. There are a couple of tricky splits to look out for and don’t miss the Marathon course – set at night giving a striking view of the Lighthouse.

Short Course: 3.7 miles / Long Course: 7 miles / Marathon Course: 11 miles / Lighthouse 2.6 Miles.

The switchback sections in Eagle Mountain Ridge are where you’ll have the opportunity to pull off some of the biggest drifts in the game. This is a dramatic snowy Mountain drive, featuring up and downhill Switchbacks.

The Long course in particular has some thrilling undulation sections and all 3 have some daring Cliff edge sections where Rivals will attempt to slam you off the track.

Short Course: 6 miles / Long Course: 6.5 miles / Marathon Course: 6.8 miles

High Dunes Desert is a dry, dazzling drive through remarkable scenery but don’t be fooled – this is a technical course where you’ll need your wits about you. Combo your drift through the corners, catch some great air on the jumps (you can use aftertouch in the air to help your landing). Watch out for the sun in your eyes!

Short Course: 8.3 miles / Long Course: 9.9 miles / Marathon Course: 10.8 miles

Grasslands stands apart from the other courses in the game as it was designed as a test track. Set against a craggy, rocky backdrop are a myriad of tunnels, corners and some challenging air sections where you’ll definitely need your aftertouch.

One to watch out for the Marathon course is set beneath a moonlit sky but you’ll need your eyes firmly on the road if you don’t want to end up as part of the scenery.

Short Course: 4.6 miles / Long Course: 5.9 miles / Marathon Course: 8.7 miles

Set around a steep ravine, this fast track is as unforgiving as the rivals you’ll race against. It’s a technical track but is a firm favourite amongst the team.

Short Course: 4.7 miles / Long Course: 6.5 miles / Marathon Course: 8.7 miles

Dangerous Driving is now available for pre order everywhere!

Seems like the perfect time to tell you more of the details of the game. In this blog post we will cover the Game Modes and single player progression.

Dangerous Driving launches with a single player progression featuring 69 events and 9 different game modes:

  • Race
  • Heatwave
  • Face Off
  • Shakedown
  • Eliminator
  • GP
  • Survival
  • Pursuit
  • Road Rage

Completing events unlocks new events and new cars. More info on the cars will be revealed in another blog post coming soon.

Here is some info and screens on each of the single player game modes.

Race

Takedown based Races against 5 AI controlled vehicles.

Players fight to be first. Dangerous and aggressive driving (near misses, drifting, driving in oncoming, near misses, battling) all earn boost allowing players to go even faster.

Crash and you’ll get the chance to take Rival racers down with you using your Danger Time Aftertouch (allows you to steer your wreck in slow motion).

Taking down Rivals adds an extra chunk of Boost and fills the boost bar.

Taken down vehicles remain on the road making subsequent laps ever more dangerous! We call these ‘Persistent Wrecks’.

Heatwave

A purer Race event (harking back to an earlier time) against 5 AI racers. Takedowns are not active in this mode so players must rely on their racing skill. Dropping a whole boost bar in one go refills the boost (called a Heatwave), allowing players to chain Heatwaves together.

The best car for this event is the Tuned version of each Car Class (which have to be unlocked by playing other events). In a Tuned car each chain combo adds 2 mph to the car’s top speed.

Face Off

Face Offs are 1:1 events against a single Rival to win their car. This is the main way new cars are unlocked and you’ll want them for the benefits they give (more on this later).

The Rival is racing flat out so the only way to win is to slow them down via Takedowns whilst avoiding crashing yourself. A Boost Start off the start line is essential!

Shakedown

A fast lap against the clock. Medals are awarded based on Time alone. Some Shakedown events are Previews giving players a chance to race cars that they haven’t unlocked yet.

Eliminator

One competitor is eliminated each lap in this 5 lap race. If you’re in last place the position counter will flash red.

Takedown your Rivals to get ahead and avoid elimination. The pressure really mounts on Lap 5 where wrecks from earlier laps threaten to plunge you into last place at any moment!

GP

Players compete across 3 Takedown Race events to see who will win overall. Points are carried forward. Every Class of events ends with a GP Event.

Survival

A solo event where players race through a series of checkpoints – how long can you survive without crashing or running out of time?

Checkpoints get tighter and traffic gets heavier the further into the game players progress.

Pursuit

Play as the cops and Takedown Targets before they escape.

The number of Targets and the amount of traffic escalates throughout the game. Later Pursuits have Targets with varied amount of Health. Players start with a Cop Sedan but can unlock SUV and Supercar versions by earning a Gold Medal on certain events.

Road Rage

How many Takedowns can players score against the clock? Later events have special rules – no shunts; only Traffic Takedowns apply.

That’s all 9 single player game modes included in the game at launch. Complete events to unlock new events and new cars as you progress.

Some special features that are worth calling out:

  • Persistent wrecks – take a Rival down and their wreck remains on the road. Take someone down into a persistent wreck for a ‘Junkyard Takedown’. Crash into one yourself and it’s a ‘Nervous Wreck’. And believe us you will be a nervous wreck when trying to win a tough race against 5 fierce competitors and there are wrecks littering the last lap!
  • Doing a Heatwave event in a Tuned car – Heatwave events are most like Burnout 2 style races – a return to a time before the Takedown was invented! They are about purer racing – so no Takedowns! Drop a Heatwave bar of boost in one go and you’ll get a Heatwave bonus (which refills your boost). And when you are racing in a Tuned vehicle each successful Heatwave combo adds 2 mph to the car’s top speed. You’ll need to be ‘in the zone’ to survive! Crash and your top speed is back to normal.
  • Road Rage – that most popular of modes in this genre is back – and later events feature some rule changes – how many Takedowns can you score when Shunts are disabled – or when only Traffic Takedowns count?
  • Online play – we are excited to release the online version of the game in Month 1 of release. There will be online racing and of course online Road Rage – and persistent wrecks, Junkyard Takedowns and Nervous Wrecks (see above) will all feature strongly.

Don’t forget the pre orders are live for the game now – it is a massive help if you do pre order the game as it helps retailers, including the PlayStation and Xbox One store people, see how much excitement there is for the game. More pre orders = hopefully better store placement and marketing support = more sales.
